In addition to The Prison Gate, there are 13 other cultural hotspots around the historic Hofvijver (Court Pond), the Binnenhof and the stately Lange Voorhout. All within walking distance of each other. Together they form the Museum Quarter of The Hague. Highly recommended for a cultural day out in the Court City.
Discover the Museum Quarter
The Hague is rich in history, art and beautiful treasures. In the Museum Quarter, old classics, well-known masters and young talents come together in the city's museums and theatres. Discover Rembrandt and Vermeer at the Mauritshuis, be amazed by the optical illusions of Escher in the Palace and get to know new talent at the National Theatre and Theater Diligentia. Visit the historic Kloosterkerk on the Lange Voorhout. Don't forget to take a walk around the Binnenhof: the political heart of the Netherlands for 800 years (now under renovation).
Also to be visited in the Museum Quarter of The Hague: the Historical Museum of The Hague where you can learn everything about 800 years of the Binnenhof, Museum Bredius with a special private art collection, Galerie Willem V (our neighbor), the oldest museum in The Hague and ANNA's Kiss & Ride at Korte Vijverberg 2 and Lange Houtstraat 8. Contemporary visual art can be found at West Den Haag (in the former American embassy) and at the artists' circle Pulchri Studio.
Shopping and restaurants in the city centre
Combine a visit to the Museum Quarter The Hague with a visit to the hospitable restaurants in The Hague or the many special and unique shops on the Denneweg or Noordeinde. In the compact city centre of The Hague, everything is within walking distance of each other. Enjoy a cup of coffee at the Plaats, lunch in one of the courtyards on the Lange Houtstraat, a chic dinner on the Denneweg or people-watching until the late hours on the Plein. On the Noordeinde you will find all kinds of beautiful boutiques and galleries and a visit to the Passage is always a treat.
Accessibility
The Museum Quarter is located near The Hague Central Station. Of course, in addition to train and metro, many tram and bus connections also stop there. All museums and theatres are close to each other, usually less than a hundred metres apart. Would you rather come by car? The Museum Quarter has its own parking garage. The entrance to Interparking Museumkwartier is located on the Toernooiveld near the Royal Theatre next to West The Hague.
